Many of us learned to treat rest as the prize at the end of productivity. We tell ourselves we will slow down after the work is done, after everyone else is cared for, or after we have proven that we have done enough. The problem is that the work is rarely finished.
Rest can be intentional without being elaborate. It may look like an earlier bedtime, a quiet walk, five minutes without a screen, or allowing someone else to help. The practice begins by noticing what your body has been asking for—and believing that its needs matter.
You do not have to wait until exhaustion makes the decision for you. Rest is not an interruption to a meaningful life. It helps make that life sustainable.
Pause and ask yourself: What is one thing my whole self needs from me today?
